Having worked for Halifax for 29 years, reaching a position of Senior Manager, David Greenwood decided it was time for a new challenge.  He had grown tired of the long hours and was disillusioned with working for such a large company.  His opportunity came in 2003, when Halifax merged with Royal Bank of Scotland. David was offered voluntary redundancy and chose to invest the money into a franchise business.  Following a visit, with his wife Angela, to the British Franchise Fair in Birmingham, David decided that a Merry Maids franchise would be the ideal new venture.

Following an intensive training course at the Merry Maids head office in Leicester the Greenwoods started their franchise in May 2003.  David comments, “I knew that I had the right skills to run my own franchise with my background in management and finance. When Angela decided to leave her position in the finance department at Strathclyde University to come on board, I knew we would be able to make the business a real success!”

Having had their own franchise for several years now David and Angela say that their quality of life both personally and professional has improved dramatically.  They work hard and long hours but comment that knowing it is benefiting them directly and not lining someone else’s pocket makes all the difference.
